How to make Windows 11 look like Windows 10 again

There are many reasons why you may want to use Windows 11 instead of Windows 10. Maybe you want to use a particular app that is not compatible with Windows 10. Maybe you want to go back to an older version of Windows. Or maybe you would like to play some games on your Windows 10 PC that require an older version of Windows. Regardless of the reason, there are easy ways to get Windows 11 to look like Windows 10 again.

Windows 10 is a very different operating system and not everyone likes it. Many people have asked how to make the new Windows look like Windows 10, the answer is simple: Simply change the color scheme, dark to light. I personally used the Windows 10 color scheme in the video, however, you can use whatever color scheme you want.

Many Windows users are annoyed by the modifications that are being made to Windows 10, to make it look more like Windows 8/8.1. Some people have taken advantage of this and installed the Windows 8/8.1 operating system onto their computers to see the changes for themselves. They have also been able to effectively “sign” their PC versions, making it look like they are running “Windows 7/8/8.1”, and thus making Windows 10 look more “natural”.. • If you’re not excited about the new design, check out this guide on how to make Windows 11 look like Windows 10.
  • You can easily return to the old Start menu by making a simple registry change.
  • To move the centered icons to the left, you have an intuitive option in the settings.
  • There is also a special third-party application that allows you to customize the taskbar.

Sure, Windows 11 looks great with all the new features and transparency, but that’s purely a matter of taste, and if you don’t like it, you can at least partially make it look like the old Windows 10.

As you know, the Start menu in Windows 11 is now centered, unlike the left-facing menu in Windows 10.

The new centered taskbar icons are reminiscent of macOS, although there’s no sign of the Mac version of Windows 11 yet.

We will show you how to restore the old look, how to restore dynamic tiles and some other interesting tips.

How to make Windows 11 look like Windows 10?

1. Changing the appearance of the Start menu

  1. Press the Windows + R key combination to start the run.
  2. Type regedit and press Enter or OK.

  1. Take the next route: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced
  2. Right-click on an empty space in the right pane, select New, and then DWORD Value (32-bit).

  1. Call it Start_ShowClassicMode.
  2. Right-click the new value, choose Modify, and set Value Data to 1.
  3. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to make some minor registry changes to get the Start menu back to how it was, but it’s not that hard as you can see from the steps above.

To go back, do the reverse action, except that you have already created a value and you only need to give the value 0 to Value Data.

2. Move taskbar icons to the left

  1. Go to the Settings menu in Windows 11.
  2. Select Taskbar, and then Customize.
  3. In the top access, you will find a drop-down menu and the ability to move the taskbar icons to the left.

If you don’t like the centered icons in the taskbar, you can easily move them to the left, like in Windows 10. Fortunately, you don’t need any special modifications beyond the simple steps above.

3. Use a special application to modify the taskbar

If you don’t like the new taskbar at all, you can change it to your liking with the special software recommended below.

With this tool you can completely change the look of the taskbar. You can even change the transparency, effect and color.

However, the main feature of the application is that it can merge states and instances while you are using your PC. In this way, you can restore or change the appearance of Windows 10 to your liking.

⇒ Maintain transparency

4. Changing the size of the taskbar icon

  1. Press Windows key + R to run.
  2. Type regedit and press OK or Enter.
  3. Go to the following location in the left pane: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced

  1. Right-click on an empty space in the right pane, select New, choose a DWORD (32-bit) value, and name it TaskbarSi.
  2. Follow the same procedure to create the TaskbarSmallIcons value.
  3. You can now right click on both values and select Edit.
  4. If you change the value data of both according to the table above, you will get different sizes and appearances of the taskbar icons.

  1. Of course, you will need to restart the computer after each registration change.

As you can see from the steps above, you can even change the size and appearance of the taskbar icons to look like they do in Windows 10.

5. Change wallpaper

You won’t feel completely at home until you’ve made your desktop background look like Windows 10 again.

Wallpapers for Windows 10 can be downloaded from the Microsoft support site or another reliable source.

Once you have downloaded the desired wallpaper, right click on it and choose Install as Wallpaper.

Just make sure the screen proportions are right for your height to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Why does the Start menu need to go back to what it was?

Here at Windows Report, we applaud the change and are excited about the new look, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be all that open to it.

If you want to take advantage of other performance improvements, you may not want to change the look you’re used to, at least not yet.

But that’s not all. Windows Live Tiles are no more, and while many of us didn’t like them, there are users among us who do have them and still want to use them.

This is probably why the code is still slumbering in the operating system and can be recovered by simply modifying the registry, as you saw in our solution above.

We hope our guide has helped you restore Windows 11 to the look and feel of Windows 10 and that you are happy with your operating system again.
