Wi-Fi doesn’t have a valid IP configuration

If you still think Wi-Fi routers have the most secure configuration possible, you may want to think again. There are many ways to have your router hacked and if you don’t turn off your router’s features, you may be at risk. In this article, we’ll explain about the four ways a Wi-Fi router can get hacked, and how to prevent it from happening to you.

Wi-Fi in the last few years has seen a huge leap in terms of capabilities and user experience. It is a lot more than just a networking technology. As a part of the process of making Wi-Fi easier to use, it has been strongly advocated that it should have a designated IP address. But in reality, this isn’t always feasible when a home user does not own a router that supports this feature.

Wi-Fi networks are a good choice if you don’t want to deal with cables and move your laptop around. While Wi-Fi is very convenient, some Windows 10 users report getting an error message that Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration. This error will prevent you from using Wi-Fi. Let’s see how we can correct this. The Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration, which may prevent you from accessing the Internet. There are several variations of this error, and speaking of similar problems, here are the most common ones:

  • No valid IP configuration for Windows 10 – This may be due to anti-virus or security settings. You should be able to solve the problem by disabling your antivirus program.
  • Wi-Fi does not have valid IP configuration Lenovo, HP, Windows 10 Toshiba, ASUS, Surface Pro 4, Dell – Can occur on almost any device and is usually caused by your drivers. Make sure you update the drivers to the latest version.
  • Wi-Fi does not have valid IP configuration, unidentified network, no internet access, unsecured internet – There are several variants of this error, but you can solve them all with the solutions in this article.

What should I do if the Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration?

1. Uninstall the wireless adapter driver

  1. Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Locate the wireless device, right-click on it, and select Remove Device.
  3. If available, select the Remove drivers for this device check box, and click OK.
  4. Restart your computer.

After rebooting, Windows 10 will automatically install the default wireless driver. If the default driver works well, you can continue to use it, but if you experience problems, you may need to download and install the latest driver. Note that updating drivers is a complicated process. If you are not careful, you may damage your system irreparably by loading the wrong driver version, so be very careful. We strongly recommend you to use a special tool to automatically download all outdated drivers to your PC. The process is almost entirely automatic.

2. Reset TCP/IP

  1. Find cmd and click Run as Administrator to start the command prompt.
  2. Enter the following lines:
    • netsh winsock reset
    • netsh int ip reset
  3. Close the command prompt and restart the computer.

Note that if you use a static IP address, you will need to reconfigure it. If the previous commands did not work, try these commands as well:

  • ipconfig/release
  • ipconfig/flushdns
  • ipconfig/renew

If you cannot use the command prompt to enter the above commands, read this troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue.

3. Change wireless network SSID and password

Reportedly, you can fix the error that the Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration by going to the modem and changing the SSID and password of the wireless network. To do this, connect the PC to the modem via an Ethernet cable, go to the modem and change the SSID and password of the wireless network. Consult the manual of your modem for more information.

4. Set channel width to Auto

  1. Press Windows + X and select Network Connections from the menu.
  2. Right-click on the wireless connection and select Properties from the menu.
  3. Click the Configure button and then click the Advanced tab.
  4. Find the 802.11n channel width for band 2.4 and set it to Auto.

  5. Press the OK button when you are finished.

Message: You must enter the DNS server manually. We used Google’s public DNS, but you can also use 192.168.1.1 as your preferred DNS server.

6. Uninstalling antivirus software

Anti-virus software or firewalls can often disrupt an Internet connection, causing IP configuration to fail. As a temporary solution, you can remove your antivirus program or firewall. Users have reported that Avast and AVG antivirus programs can cause this problem. Once the problematic software was removed, the problem was solved. Remember that almost all antivirus software can cause this problem. So make sure you temporarily uninstall third-party antivirus programs.

Run a system check for errors

Press Start Scan to check for Windows problems. Press Repair Everything to troubleshoot proprietary technology. Run a PC scan with Restoro Repair Tool to find errors that cause security problems and slowdowns. Once the scan is complete, the recovery process replaces the damaged files with new Windows files and components. Many antivirus and other software programs cannot be completely uninstalled by the normal uninstall process, and they often leave behind files that can contaminate your system or prevent proper reinstallation. We therefore recommend that you use a professional tool that will completely remove all traces of your antivirus software, including in the registry. ⇒ Get IObit Uninstaller Pro If uninstalling the antivirus program solves the problem, you can continue installing the latest version of your antivirus program or switch to another antivirus program. We recommend that you use an antivirus program that optimizes your computer’s processes. This is very important and can save you from many problems that can occur with your computer (including these types of PC errors).

7. Changing the number of DHCP users

According to some users, this problem can be solved by increasing the number of DHCP users. Some routers are generally limited to 50, which can result in an error message when configuring IP. To resolve this issue, you need to access the router and manually increase the number of DHCP users. Users reported that all problems were solved after the number was increased. Study the router’s manual to find out how to do this. In addition, some users suggest that the IP configuration problem can be solved by increasing the maximum number of wireless users. Some routers are limited to only 10 wireless users and increasing the maximum number solved the problem. If you cannot access your router, refer to this guide to find out how to remedy the situation.

8. Performing a clean take-off

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig and press Enter.
  2. Choose Selective Startup and clear the Load Startup Objects check box.
  3. Click the Services tab, select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
  4. Click the Start tab and click Open Task Manager, then click Apply and OK.
  5. Right-click on any item in the list and select Disable.
  6. Close Task Manager and click Apply and OK in the Windows Setup window.
  7. Restart your computer.

If the problem does not occur, enable the disabled services and applications and find the one causing the problem and remove or update it.

9. Check if DHCP is enabled

  1. Open network connections.
  2. Find your network adapter, right-click on it and select Diagnostics.
  3. Wait until the analysis is complete.

Message: You can enable DHCP at any time in the router settings if you have previously disabled it.

10. Check if safety type matches

Sometimes the cause of the failed IP configuration can be related to security. Therefore, make sure the security type on your computer matches the security type set on the router. To do this, simply open the router’s settings page, go to the Wireless section and check what type of security is being used. Next, make sure your wireless adapter uses the same type of security. How do I fix wifi doesn’t have a valid IP configuration Windows 10?

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to fix the problem of the IP configuration not being correct in Windows 10. When you don’t have an IP configuration, it often means that the router isn’t able to communicate with the devices connected to it. This can be caused by a missing or damaged IP configuration file which is present on the router or an IP configuration not matching the router’s.

Why does my WIFI not have an IP address?

It’s something that all of us have experienced, and whether you’ve noticed it or not, it’s been a constant nuisance for the better part of a decade. Whether you’re at home or at work, Wi-Fi is always working to keep us connected to the Internet and the rest of the world; but what if that connection is broken? If you’re having problem with Wi-Fi, it’s likely that you’re one of the millions of people who have an unconfigured IP address. Let’s take a look at IP address configuration and why it’s so important. An IP address is a number that is associated with your network device; in this case, your WiFi router.

How do I fix local area connection doesn’t have a valid IP configuration?

At home, you can’t always be online, but you want to be able to connect to the Internet some way. This can be done through a router or a cable modem, but if you don’t have one, you may have to use a hotspot. If you are using a phone, you can use apps such as fongo, or you can go through the hotspot on your phone. When you connect to Wi-Fi you expect a unique IP address, and your device will be able to find it thanks to the internet. However, sometimes your device will not be able to find the IP address, perhaps because the Wi-Fi access point does not have a valid IP configuration or maybe the IP address is just no longer valid. These are the reasons why your device may not be able to connect to Wi-Fi.
